SENSORY ROOM

Crossroads is thankful to offer a classroom that is designed to nurture faith based learning suitable for a wide variety of children with special needs. The classroom utilizes a special curriculum that is specifically designed for students with sensory integration needs and uses techniques to keep the children engaged in learning how to make daily decisions centered around Christ. The curriculum moves at an individual pace for each child, and allows the children to freely express themselves and the image of Christ that they were created in.

Currently, the Sensory Room is available on Wednesday evenings for children of adults participating in Wednesday ministries. It is also available during our 9:30 a.m. worship service on Sunday mornings. The Sensory Room is a wonderful blessing to the church, to the families and children that we serve, and the volunteers who work with the children.

Interested in utilizing the Sensory Room?
We would love to serve every child that would benefit from the use of the sensory room. However, due to safety reasons for all students, we ask that parents first contact the Sensory Room Coordinator, Jess Dunlap, to establish information regarding the needs of the child. We also require that every child has a parent or guardian on the church campus at all times.

Steps to Enroll:
1. Call or email to request a meeting with Jessica Dunlap - 419-335-3686 / jdunlap@crossroadswauseon.org.
2. A face-to-face meeting or a phone conversation will be set up to learn further information and assess needs of both the child and the sensory room.
3. Once the details have been worked out, you will be given an availability date to begin using the Sensory Room, or information about the waiting list (if more volunteers are needed to maintain a low child-volunteer ratio).

About our Volunteers
Here at Crossroads we take serving our children seriously, which is why all of our volunteers have undergone a thorough screening process, which includes both a background check and completion of our Child Protection Policy. The Sensory Room also provides all volunteers with a quick and informative training, so you can rest assured that your child is in safe and capable hands.

Sensory Room Coordinator

Jessica Dunlap joined the Crossroads' staff in 2015 as the Sensory Room Coordinator. Her passion for working with children with exceptionalities started when she was young, volunteering and mentoring in the Multiple Handicap classroom throughout high school. Christ led this passion into college where she attended the University of Toledo and graduated with a degree in Moderate to Severe Intervention, with a specialty certificate focused on working with children with Autism and her license in American Sign Language. Jessica taught for 4 years at an all special needs school in Toledo before relocating to Wauseon and hanging up her full time teaching hat to focus on being a mom, occasionally subbing at Sarah's Garden to feed her passion for serving this population of children. We are blessed by her leadership in developing and supervising our Sensory Room Ministry.
